Bio-Sketch –Zaid Abassi
Zaid Abassi, Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, has been a member of the Technion Faculty since 1996. He received his B.Sc., M.Sc. and D.Sc. in Medical Sciences from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in 1984, 1987, and 1989, respectively. After a one-year postdoctoral period at the Faculty of Medicine (1989-90), he moved to the National Institutes of Health-NIH at Maryland USA (1990-1995) for a postdoctoral research. Since his recruitment by the Technion, Prof. Abassi is the Director of Laboratory for Kidney and Hypertension Research at the Department of Physiology -Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Technion. Prof. Abassi has ~190 original publications in peer review journals and textbooks. Prof. Abassi has received several awards for his research, including Hershel Rich Technion Innovation Award (2006).Besides his recent and past achievements in research, he had excellent achievements as a lecturer, expressed by a wide variety of prizes that he received for (constantly) excellence in teaching including the best Technion Lecturer Award. Prof. Abassi had also worked as a supervisor for a broad range of talented graduate and undergraduate students in the Faculty of Medicine. Prof. Abassi has extensive experience in renal, cardiac and hypertension research. His main interest is vascular biology and cardio-renal axis in health and disease. Over the last 20 years, his group has been studying the pathophysiology of heart failure using an experimental model of CHF. In addition, Prof. Abassi research focuses on the pathogenesis of chronic and acute renal failure and novel therapeutic approaches to these disease states.
