Former Deans

Prof. David Ehrlich (MD), one of the founders of the faculty, served as the first dean from 1969 to 1978. Prof. Ehrlich, awardee of the Israel Prize for Medicine, headed a surgical department at Rambam Hospital.

 

Prof. David Barzilai (MD), one of the founders of the Faculty of Medicine, served as dean from 1978 to 1982. Prof. Barzilai headed an internal department at Rambam Hospital.

Prof. Ori Better (MD) served as dean of the faculty in 1983 and 1984. Prof. Better headed a nephrology department at Rambam Hospital.

Prof. David Gutman (DMD) served as dean of the faculty from 1985 to 1990. Prof. Gutman headed a department of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Rambam Hospital.

Prof. Michael Silberman (DMD), served as dean of the faculty in 1991 and 1992. Prof. Silberman headed the Department of Anatomy of the Faculty of Medicine.

Prof. Peretz Lavie (PhD) served as dean of the faculty from 1993 to 1998. Prof. Lavie, a physiologist, awardee of the EMET Prize in Medicine, has been President of the Technion since 2009.

Prof. Rafael Beyar (MD, PhD) served as dean of the faculty from 1999 to 2004. Prof. Beyar headed the Cardiology Department of Rambam Hospital and has been managing the hospital since 2005.

Prof. Ido Perlman (PhD), physiologist and researcher of the visual system, served as Dean of the Faculty from 2005 to 2010.

Prof. Eliezer Shalev (MD) served as dean of the Faculty from 2011 to 2016. Prof. Shalev headed the Obstetrics & Gynecology at Ha’emek Medical Center in Afula.

Prof. Shimon Marom (MD, PhD) served as dean of the faculty in 2017 and 2018.

Prof. Eisenberg was the Director of Pain Relief Research Unit, Pain Relief Clinic at Rambam health care hospital  and his main areas of expertise are neuropathic pain and its treatment.
