Walid Saliba, MD, MPH, is currently a Clinical Associate Professor in the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine in the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.
Following completion of his first specialty in Internal Medicine in Carmel Medical Center, Walid served as senior physician and Deputy Director of the Department of Internal Medicine in HaEmek Medical Center.In 2012 Walid completed his second specialty in Public Health and Epidemiology in Carmel Medical Center. Since 2015 Walid is the Director of the Translational Epidemiology Unit in the Department of Community Medicine and Epidemiology in Carmel Medical Center, and as part of his responsibilities he is in charge of the Chronic Disease Registry and Hospitals Discharge Diagnoses Registry at Clalit Health Services. Walid has coauthored more than 120 articles that were published in peer reviewed medical journal. His fields of interest include epidemiology of cardiovascular medicine and thrombosis, and epidemiology of atrial fibrillation and associated comorbidities with emphasis on stroke risk stratification, finding of new risk factors, and improving the predictive accuracy of currently available predictive models. Walid research also includes cancer etiology and the epidemiology of vitamin D deficiency and associated comorbidities. Walid is the coordinator of the Epidemiology Course for medical students and the coordinator of the final examination committee in Internal Medicine (Matkonet) in the Technion Rappaport Faculty of Medicine. Walid received many honors including Outstanding Lecturer Awards, Outstanding Contribution for Internal Medicine Awards, and Mentoring MD Thesis Award. Among his other responsibilities and activities, Walid is the director of the Research Authority in Carmel Medical Center. He also serves as a member of the advisory board for the International MPH program, School of Public Health, University of Haifa, and a member of the Israeli Ministry of Health committee for the follow-up of COVID-19 vaccines safety and effectiveness.
