Kahn Building Construction Project

Building a future. Today: The New Rappaport-Kahan Building Project – Updates

We are approaching the launch of the Rappaport-Kahn Building construction project.

This period of construction will present challenges for all of us, but it will advance the Faculty for years to come. On the site of the current parking lot, new research facilities will be built – connecting cutting-edge scientific and medical research with the patient bedside. In addition, new areas will be created to bring together students, physicians, engineers, and faculty members.

While we look ahead to a scientific leap forward, we understand the concerns this process may raise regarding potential disruptions to our daily academic life. We are committed to providing ongoing updates on expected challenges and to addressing any questions or issues that may arise along the way.

What’s all the noise about?

The new building will be dedicated to research and interdisciplinary collaboration, with a strong emphasis on basic science, and on cancer research in particular. It will serve as a hub for advancing the faculty’s research, developing new fields of study, and recruiting leading researchers and faculty members.

The Interdepartmental Equipment Unit will relocate to the new Cancer Research Center, making room for a significant expansion of the Pre-Clinical Research Center.

What will it look like?

Attached to this email are architectural renderings of the new building — offering you a glimpse into the future.

Where do I park?

Starting in August, parking inside the Bat Galim campus will be closed. Alternative parking will be available for faculty, staff, and students in the Haifa Port area and in the parking lot of Rambam Health Care Campus (subject to space availability). More information regarding parking will be shared with you in next month’s update.

What’s the timeline?

  • August–November – Infrastructure work and acoustic sealing will be carried out based on the recommendations of an acoustic consultant. The goal: to minimize noise in lecture halls, sensitive laboratories, and rooms near the construction site. We do not expect significant noise during this phase.
  • December–January – Drilling begins.
  • March – Excavation starts.
