Dr. Irit Hochberg is Chair of Endocrinology and Clinical Assistant Professor at the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine Technion – Israel Institute of Technology Faculty of Medicine, and head of the Diabetes Service in the Institute of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism at Rambam Medical center.
Dr. Hochberg graduated Cum Laude from the M.D./Ph.D. program at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in 2002. Her Ph.D. thesis was on the molecular basis for inter-individual variability in development and progression of vascular diseases and diabetes complications. After specializing in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at Rambam, Dr. Hochberg completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the University of Michigan on the topic of molecular mechanisms for diabetes and insulin resistance (2012).
Dr. Hochberg is a leader in the national Diabetologist training program at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology continuing education program. She is responsible for teaching the subject of diabetes to physicians, interns, nurses and medical students. She authored over 40 scientific and clinical manuscripts in leading international peer-reviewed journals, lectures at international and national endocrinology meetings and has research collaborations with technology and biotechnology companies, physicians and researchers from several countries.
Dr. Hochberg is a member and treasurer of the Israel Diabetes Association (IDA) excutive committee and serves as head of its science committee. She is member of the National Diabetes Council at the Israeli Ministiry of Health.
Her current research topics include the use of digital technologies for treating diabetes; molecular mechanisms of diabetes, insulin resistance and diabetes complications; and treatment of diabetes in hospitalized patients.
